MARION — The Eureka Tornado girls used an 18-5 second quarter run to down the Remington Broncos 54-27 Monday night in the Marion Classic.

Eureka led 24-7 at the half and 40-15 after three quarters.

Chanzi Ptacek led 2-0 Eureka with 14 points. Ava Perrier scored 13 and Brooklyn Ptacek scored 10.

Lilly Hilgenfeld led Remington with seven points. Cassi Wedel scored six.

Remington is 0-2 and plays Marion at 7 p.m. Friday.

GOESSEL — The Burrton Charger girls opened the season with a 40-34 loss to Hutchinson Central Christian Monday night in the Goessel Bluebird Classic.

Burrton trailed 11-5 after the first quarter and 21-12 at the half, but the Chargers were able to pull back into the game in the second half.

Josie Ibarra led 2-0 Central Christian with nine points. Kaylee Kauffman and Aly Lambert each scored eight.

Alexis Zehr led Burrton with 15 points. Combs added 13.

Burrton plays host Goessel at 7 p.m. Friday.
