HESSTON – Hesston College has announced the recipient of the 2019-20 Habegger-Harder Science/Math Scholarship to first-year student Alex Miller of Arlington. Miller is studying biology at Hesston with aspirations toward dentistry.

Miller was selected because of his interest in a STEM career as well as his academic achievement.

“Alex has been an engaged student in class and interested in making connections,” said Kyle Miller Hesed, Hesston College biology professor and Miller’s academic advisor.

First established in 2016, the endowed Habegger-Harder Scholarship is intended to be awarded annually to one student that best demonstrates high academic achievement and a passion for a major in science, math or computer science.

A scholarship for science and math students was long envisioned by program faculty who wanted to recognize high achieving students. The Habegger-Harder Scholarship was finally realized when a significant initiating amount was donated by the estate of the father of faculty emerita Lorna Harder, who taught environmental biology at Hesston for 25 years.
