The Salina Hawks, Junction City Blues and El Dorado all advanced with first-round wins Sunday afternoon in the 2019 Kansas American Legion Class A (17U) Zone 3 and 4 Tournament at Klein-Scott Field.

Salina downed the Derby Bandits 13-2, Junction City downed Hutchinson 5-2 and El Dorado stopped the Andover Trojans 9-8 in eight innings.

Hutchinson will face Derby at 1 p.m. Monday, followed by Junction City and Salina. In the late game, Newton will play El Dorado.

Salina 13, Derby 2

The Salina Hawks took advantage of five walks, four errors and four hit batters to down the Derby Panthers 13-2 in 3 1/2 innings on the 10-run rule.

Salina pitcher Zach Davidson went the distance for the win, allowing two hits, a walk and six strikeouts. Kavon Howard took the loss for Derby, allowing two hits, seven earned runs, four walks and three strikeouts.

Salina scored nine runs on one hit in the first inning and four runs on one hit in the third.

Three Salina errors led to a pair of Derby runs in the top of the second inning.

Howard and Garrett McGovern each had a hit for Derby.

Kade Barber had both hits and two RBIs for Salina, which advances to the semifinals.

Junction City 5, Hutchinson 2

The Junction City Blues advanced to the semifinals with a 5-2 win over the Hutchinson Hawks.

The Blues used a three-run third inning to take a 4-0 lead. Junction City added an insurance run in the fifth inning.

Hutchinson scored a run in the fourth inning on a pair of doubles and added a run in the sixth.

James Hancock went three for three hitting with an RBI for the Blues. Jordan Kell drove in two runs.

Junction City used three pitchers, holding Hutchinson to three hits. Andrew Khoury struck out four in three innings. Kell went two innings for the win, striking out two. Trevor Laughlin pitched the last two games, striking out two.

Jared Stoffel took the loss for Hutchinson, striking out four batters in five innings.

El Dorado 9, Andover 8

With one out and two runners on base in the bottom of the seventh inning, John Ferley hit an infield single, coupled with an error to allow the winning run to score.

Down 6-4 in the bottom of the sixth, El Dorado’s Kollby Roberts tripled and scored on a Trip Baker triple. Jett Roberts then singled to score Baker and tie the game. Jett Roberts stole second, went to third on a ground out and scored on a Ferley ground out.

Andover came back in the top of the seventh when Cade Orban reached on an error and came home on a Collin Galloway triple. Josh Wolfe then singled to score Galloway.

El Dorado tied the game back up with two outs in the bottom of the seventh when Caleb Winter walked, went to second on an errant pickoff throw and scored on a Kolby Roberts single.

Jett Roberts finished the game two for three hitting with three RBIs. Kolby Roberts finished three for four with an RBI.

Conner Fuller and Ejan each drove in two runs for Andover. Ejan and Galloway both finished two for four hitting.

El Dorado starter Trip Baker struck out four through 6.1 innings. Scribner finished the game for the win, striking out three.

Andover used four pitchers. Starter Cade Orban struck out four. Ejan took the loss for the Trojans.
