Newton High School graduate Lylia Fernandez will display her artwork during Third Thursday, 6 to 8 p.m. June 20, at Carriage Factory Art Gallery in Newton. The event is free and open to the public.
Fernandez is this year’s recipient of the Ericka J. Stucky Scholarship for Continuing Education in Art. The scholarship is given to an individual who is pursing a post-high school education in the field of art. Fernandez plans to study art and elementary education at Hutchinson Community College.
Fernandez’s works include paintings, ceramics and drawings done with pencil and ink.
Third Thursday will also feature live music by Erin Sundquist Stone, who will play the flute.
Carriage Factory Art Gallery is a nonprofit organization that sells art by more than 50 area artists. It also provides workshops in various art media throughout the year and offers space for rent for special events and meetings. Gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
