Parks meeting moved
The Harvey County Parks Advisory Board meeting scheduled for May 13 at West Park was postponed and moved to a different location because of flooding.
The meeting will be held May 20 at Volunteer Hall in Harvey County East Park.
MIT Spokes returning to library
Spokes, a team of eight MIT students biking across the United States to rethink STEM education, will return to Newton this summer.
The team will provide free science, technology, engineering and mathematics workshops July 3 at Newton Public Library.
The team will make stops throughout the country to hold Learning Festivals to each hands-on, project-based workshops in four main areas: "Ready, Set, Make!," "Decoding DNA," Intelligence: From the Brain to Driving Cars" and "Fun With Chemistry."

Defense class coming to church
Columbus Avenue Church of Christ will host a women's assault prevention seminary from 10 a.m. to noon June 8 at the church, 101 Columbus Ave.
The course instructor will be Jeff Ostlund, who will cover situational awareness, victim/predator psychology and threat assessment.
The class is free and available for girls and women 12 and older. For more information call 283-2522.
