Bethel claims

titles, record

SALINA — The Bethel College track teams collected more medals, another national qualifier and another school record Friday in the final day of competition at the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships in Salina.

The Bethel women finished seventh out of 12 teams, while the Bethel men were 11th.

Friends won the women’s competition at 228 points. Saint Mary was second at 149. Tabor was third at 81. Bethel scored 51 points.

Saint Mary won the men’s competition at 219 points. Friends was second at 139 and McPherson was third at 129. Bethel scored 24 points.

Braylen Brewer took second in the men’s 400-meter dash in 47.79 seconds, breaking the NAIA nationals automatic qualifying mark of 48.30. He also set a new school record. Brewer took sixth in the 200-meter dash finals in 22.13.

Kristen Herzet finished second in the javelin in 35.54 meters (116-7) and third in the discus in 41.51 meters (136-2). Courtney Herzet picked up a pair of points in the javelin, taking seventh in 31.48 meters (103-3).

Alyjah Kennedy took second in the triple jump in 11.31 meters (37-1 1/4).

Jennifer Andres finished third in the finals of the women’s 100-meter dash in 12.21, .09 seconds off the NAIA provisional qualifying mark. Andres finished sixth in the 200-meter dash in 25.67.

THURSDAY’S RESULTS — Bethel senior Kyle Wilson claimed a title for the Threshers in the shot put, winning in 17.15 meters (56-3 1/4), a new meet record by .34 meters and breaking his own school record.

Robert Graham took seventh in the hammer throw 43.66 meters (143-3).

Angus Siemens claimed a point in the 10,000-meter run, taking eighth in 34:47.99.

Braylen Brewer claimed the top qualifying time in the 400-meter dash in 48.64. Brewer qualified third in the 200-meter dash in 22.21.

For the Bethel women, Alyjah Kennedy won the long jump in 5.61 meters (18-5).

Kristen Herzet took second in the hammer throw in 47.62 meters (156-3).

Jennifer Andres reached the finals of the 100-meter dash after finishing the prelims in 12.54, fifth overall. Andres qualified sixth in the 200-meter dash in 25.41.

The competition concludes today.
