postponements

The Newton-Maize baseball and softball games scheduled for Tuesday have been rescheduled for 4 p.m. Monday at Maize.

The Newton JV track meet at Bethel College has been canceled and will not be made up.

The Chisholm Middle School track meet at Haysville has been canceled and will not be made up.

The Newton girls’ soccer games at Salina South has been postponed until May 1 at Salina Stadium with game times at 5 p.m. (JV) and 6:30 p.m.

The Newton High School boys’ junior varsity golf team’s meet at the Hesston Invitational has been rescheduled to 3 p.m. May 8.

The Buhler I-135 Shootout Golf Tournament (Newton and Hesston) has been canceled.

The Hesston Middle School tennis meet and track meet have both been canceled.

The Moundridge-Sedgwick softball and baseball games scheduled for Tuesday will be played at 4 p.m. Monday at Sedgwick.

The Moundridge Invitational track meet (Moundridge, Sedgwick) has been postponed until Monday.

The Goessel High School track team’s meet has been canceled.

The Marion Invitational golf tournament (Remington, Goessel, Peabody-Burns) has been canceled.

The Remington baseball and softball games at home against Inman have been postponed (no make-up date set).

There will be a meeting for players and parents interested in playing Newton Post 2 American Legion baseball this summer at 6 p.m. Sunday at the old school building at St. Mary’s School, Eighth Street and Main, in Newton.

DERBY — The Newton High School boys’ tennis team tied for fourth Monday at the Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division I championships in Derby.

Salina Central won the title with 49 points, followed by Maize at 42, Hutchinson at 26, Newton and Derby each at 21, Salina South at 13 and Campus at 12.

In singles play, Jonah Schloneger finished fifth at 3-1. Zach Kofoed finished 11th at 2-2.

In doubles play, Seth Bontrager and Zeke Thompson finished fifth at 3-1. Daniel Buller and Joel Golubski finished 14th at 0-3.

Newton competes at the Class 5A regional tournament at 10 a.m. Friday at McPherson High School with Great Bend, Hays, Maize, Salina Central HS, Salina South and Valley Center. The top six finishers in singles and doubles advance to the state tournament May 10 and 11 at the Kossover Tennis Center in Topeka.

Swathers second

at CKL meet

PRATT — The Hesston High School boys’ tennis team ended the regular season with a second-place finish Monday at the Central Kansas League championships in Pratt.

Smoky Valley edged the Swathers for the team title 57-53. Smoky Valley won three flights, while Hesston won one flight.

Larned was third with 35 points, followed by Pratt at 31, Haven at 16, Hoisington at 13 and Hillsboro with five.

Hesston was led by Logan Gamble, who won the first singles flight at 2-0. Gamble topped Jake Lucas of Smoky Valley 6-2, 6-1 in the finals.

At second singles, Cole Deutschendorf placed second at 2-1, falling in the finals to Cole Brunbaugh of Smoky Valley 6-2, 6-1 in the finals.

At first doubles, Isaac Decker and Jeb Carlson finished second at 2-1, falling to Matt Lucas and Johann Rauchholz of Smoky Valley 6-3, 6-4 in the finals.

At second doubles, Ethan Moran and Ben Bollinger finished second at 2-1, falling in the finals to Carson Byers and Cade Schneider of Smoky Valley 6-2, 6-2 in the finals.

“Overall, I am pleased with our day,” Hesston coach Mark Dahlsten said. “The conditions were tough (cold and wind), but we handled that well for the most part. We will definitely need to play well on Thursday and Friday, as our regional is very strong, but I think we will be up to the task.”

Hesston hosts a Class 3-2-1A regional Friday with Central Plains, Ellinwood, Hillsboro, Hutchinson Trinity, Smoky Valley, Salina Sacred Heart and Sterling.

The top six singles and doubles entries advance to state May 10 and 11 at the Harmon Park Tennis Complex in Prairie Village.

G2 Heat 14U

LAWRENCE — The G2 Heat 14U-Lange team opened the season with a 3-2 finish at a weekend tournament at the Youth Sports Complex in Lawrence.

The Heat opened with a 6-5 win over the KC Automatic. Gabby Dalbom struck out eight in the win. Allyson Lange had two hits. Brookelyn Barnett and Onnie Revels each drove in a run.

The Heat then lost to Competitive Edge 04 10-3. Lange struck out two in the loss. Piper Seidl drove in two runs. Barnett had two hits.

The Heat beat the Manhattan Optimist Extreme 11-4. Dalbom struck out five in the win. Jillian George drove in three runs. Cassie Albin had two hits and two RBIs. Lange also drove in two runs.

The Heat downed the Strikers 6-3. Barnett drove in three runs. Dalbom struck out five in the win.

The Heat finished play with an 8-7 loss to Exult. Lange struck out two in the loss. Barnett had three hits and two RBIs. Siedl had two hits with an RBI.
