CHENEY — The Halstead Dragon softball team dropped a pair of road games at Cheney Monday in non-league play.

Halstead lost the first game 15-0 in four innings on the 15-run rule. Halstead lost the second game 18-5 in five innings on the 10-run rule.

In the first game, Cheney scored in every inning, breaking out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning.

Erin Newman took the loss pitching for Halstead.

Abby Church had two of Halstead’s four hits in the game.

In the second game, Cheney broke the game open with a 10-run fourth-inning.

Church drove in three runs for Halstead. Callie Considine took the loss pitching.

Halstead is 4-12 and plays at 4 p.m. Thursday at Smoky Valley in Lindsborg.

CHENEY — The Halstead Dragon baseball team claimed a split against the Cheney Cardinals Monday in non-league play in Cheney.

Halstead fell 15-0 in the first game in a game that ended in four innings on the 15-run rule. The Dragons rebounded to win the second game 10-8.

In the first game, Cheney scored four runs in each of the first three innings and three in the fourth.

David Schulte broke up a no-hitter with Halstead’s sole hit of the game.

Kevin Murphy took the loss pitching.

In the second game, Halstead broke to a 6-2 lead after four innings, adding a run in the fifth. Cheney got within a run after four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Dragons stretched its lead again.

Brian Casey tossed 4.1 innings for the win, striking out four. Cole Herman struck out three batters in two innings. David Schulte pitched the final two outs for the save.

Ivan Gutierrez went two for five hitting with two RBIs. Chandler Drake went two for four with an RBI. Carter Hiebert, Kaden Hill and Kaden Lopez each drove in a run.

Halstead is 4-12 and plays at 4 p.m. Thursday at Smoky Valley in Lindsborg.

MOUNDRIDGE — The Moundridge Wildcat baseball team split a non-league doubleheader against rival Inman Friday at Grasshopper Park in Moundridge.

Moundridge won the first game 8-2 and lost the nightcap 11-5.

The two teams played their league games earlier in the week in Inman with the Teutons sweeping.

In the first game, Moundridge jumped out 6-0 after two innings, adding a run each in the fourth and fifth innings. Inman scored both runs in the top of the sixth.

Collin Kohl went the distance for Moundridge, tossing 96 pitches — 61 for strikes. Kohl allowed seven hits with four walks and five strikeouts.

John Schlosser went two for three hitting, driving in four runs. Schlosser hit a home run and a triple. Corbin Unruh went three for four with an RBI. Wyatt Falco went two for two with an RBI.

In the second game, Inman scored in every inning but the seventh. Moundridge scored three runs in the third inning and two in the seventh.

Moundridge used four pitchers with Schlosser taking the loss.

Schlosser and Michael Santoya each drove in two runs for Moundridge. Falco went two for four with an RBI.

Moundridge is 8-8 and hosts Canton-Galva at 4 p.m. Friday.
