A head-on collision near the Reno/Harvey county line resulted in five people being transported to the hospital.

Brent Crawley, 25, of Newton, was traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 50 Tuesday in a 1996 Dodge Ram. Crawley attempted to pass two vehicles and struck a 2006 Jeep Commander that was in the eastbound lane, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol crash log.

Crawley’s pickup truck was engulfed in flames and the Jeep left the roadway following the collision. Crawley was transported to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita with suspected serious injuries.

The driver of the Jeep, Jose De Jesus Dimas-Martinez, 36, of Newton, was transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center along with three passengers — Jesus Aaron Felix-Alvarado, 51; Carlos Arellano Diaz, 33; and Juventino Monsivias-Santana, 50. The driver and three passengers had suspected minor injuries.

The crash took place just inside the Reno County line 3 miles west of Burrton near the intersection of U.S. 50 and Woodberry Road.

The collision was investigated by the Kansas Highway Patrol.
