The Bethel College softball team suffered a major setback in its post-season hopes after a pair of losses to rival Tabor College Saturday at Allen Wedel Field.

Bethel fell 10-2 in the first game and 7-6 in the second game. The first game was called after six innings on the eight-run rule.

Bethel drops its sixth straight and 13th out of the last 14 games. The Threshers fall to 12th out of 13 teams in the conference. With four games remaining, Bethel is two games behind Oklahoma Wesleyan for the eighth and final KCAC playoff spot.

In the first game, Tabor scored in the first inning on an Alicia Lopez RBI double. Josie Mora added an RBI single in the second inning.

Bethel tied the game in the bottom of the third inning on an error and a Jordan Hill sacrifice fly.

Tabor loaded the bases with no outs to lead off the fourth inning. Shanae Strate hit a two-run double. Madison Byrd added a sacrifice fly to drive in a run. Another run scored on an error.

In the top of the sixth inning, Byrd and Taylor Kathler each hit an RBI single. Two runs scored on errors.

Byrd finished three for three hitting. Madison Primrose and Kathler each finished two for four. Cassidy Stevens went two for three hitting.

Byrd went the distance pitching for Tabor, allowing no earned runs on three hits with a walk and 13 strikeouts. Madison McDowell went the distance for Bethel, allowing six earned runs on 13 hits with three walks and a strikeout.

Bethel jumped into the lead of the second game with four runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Threshers loaded the bases with no outs. Emalee Overbay drove in a run on a fielder’s choice. Alexis Wilson hit a three-run double.

With two outs in the top of the third inning, Tabor drew two walks with a single to load the bases. Alicia Lopez then hit a three-run double.

A pair of errors and four hits in the top of the fourth led to four Tabor runs. Lopez hit another three-run double.

Laura Pineda and McDowell each hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth. Bethel left a runner on base in the bottom of the sixth. A double play in the seventh inning ended the game.

Primrose went three for four hitting for Tabor. Byrd went two for three. Lopez went two for four with six RBIs.

Simons went three for four for Bethel.

Tabor starter Marlee Baxter lasted just six batters and one out. Byrd finished the game for the win, allowing two runs on four hits with six strikeouts.

Pineda took the loss for Bethel, going three innings and allowing four runs on five hits with two walks and a stikeout. McDowell finished the game, allowing two earned runs on four hits.

Tabor is 14-16, 11-9 in conference play — fifth place in the conference with four games remaining.

Bethel is 10-19, 6-14 in KCAC play, and plays at 2 p.m. today at Ottawa, 21-17 overall and 13-7 in conference play.
