For a little more than 13 years, Dan Heinze has operated Heinze Insurance on Main Street in Newton. During those years, he has taken regular stock in his company, and himself. He has regularly looked at where he, and his company, should be in the future.
"In this line of work, I have always had five-year goals and tried to get there," Heinze said. "Part of that is you have to have an exit strategy. There are a lot of opportunities out there, and timing is everything."
And regularly he has talked with Darrell and Chris Conrade, the owners of Conrade Insurance on East Broadway. This spring, Heinze said, it became obvious that the time for something different had arrived.
Heinze Insurance will be acquired by, and is merging with, Conrade Insurance Group, Inc., on July 1.
"It is a wonderful business opportunity for Mona and I personally and for our awesome and faithful staff. As you can imagine, with any big business decision, there is much to contemplate," Heinze said. "... What is the best for our customers is number one, and then what is best for us financially."
Heinze Insurance will be acquired by Conrade Insurance Group, but it will be a merger, as well. Dottie Smith still will be the receptionist and answering phone calls, Sarah Montano will continue working with personal lines insurance, Staci Vermillion will continue to service the commercial and farm business, and Mona Heinze will be assisting in the accounting office. Dan Heinze's new title will be director of community business. All of Heinze's staff will migrate to new offices, once those offices are renovated.
"You can't have Dan without the staff," Dan Heinze said.
"We are merging our great employees with his," said Sydney Jo Francis, director of operations. "... It is going to be a very focused community organization that is destined to grow and serve the community, in a much better way than we have been able to do in the past."
Conrade is renovating its current offices and will be able to facilitate about 40 employees when those renovations are complete. Conrade purchased a piece of the building formerly owned by a title company to facilitate the growth.
"We have been growing pretty steadily over the past 10 years," Francis said. "Over the past three years, we have grown an average of 12 percent each year, which was really kind of unheard of in our industry. ... We are determined to remain independent, locally owned and to grow organically, as well as through mergers."
Until renovations are complete, Heinze insurance still will be reachable at 283-5870 or 509 N. Main.
