WHITEWATER — The Remington Bronco baseball team salvaged a doubleheader split against the Hillsboro Trojans Thursday in non-league play at Whitewater Park.
Remington lost the first game 11-1, but held off Hillsboro in the second game for an 8-6 win.
The first game ended after six innings on the 10-run rule. Remington’s defense was charged with nine errors.
In the first game, each team scored a run in the first inning. Hillsboro then scores in every other inning but the third.
Brooks Gardner drove in three runs for the Trojans. Matt Potucek went two for four with two RBIs. Phillip Young went two for three with an RBI.
Weston Sommers went three for three hitting for Remington. Hagen Taylor drove in the sole run for the Broncos.
Taylor took the loss for the Broncos pitching, allowing three earned runs on seven hits with four walks and three strikeouts. Brayden Lunsford finished the game, allowing no earned runs on three hits with two walks and a strikeout.
Matt Potucek pitched five innings for the win, allowing one run on five hits with a walk and four strikeouts. Noel Reynolds and Alex Caldwell finished the game.
In the second game, Remington jumped out to a 4-1 lead after three innings. The Trojans got back in the game with a two-run fourth inning, but Remington added four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Hillsboro would score three more runs in the game.
Braden Scribner led the Broncos at the plate, going two for three with two RBIs. Taylor was two for three with an RBI.
Sommers pitched 5.2 innings for the win. He allowed two earned runs on five hits with four walks and two strikeouts. Wright finished the game for the save, allowing a walk and a strikeout.
Jack Parks took the loss for Hillsboro, 6-4.
Remington is 2-10 and plays at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Cheney.
