HAYSVILLE — The Newton High School softball team dropped a pair of games to Campus Tuesday in AV-CTL I play in Haysville.

Newton fell 15-4 and 13-5. The first game was called after six innings on the 10-run rule.

Newton took a 4-1 lead in the first game, but Campus scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning and added nine more unanswered runs.

Makayla Chavez, Bailie Stanley and Lauryn Johnson drove in three runs each for Campus. Bailie Stanley went three for three hitting.

Gracie Rains drove in two runs for Newton. Emily Peaney went three for four hitting with an RBI.

Sophie Martins pitched a complete game for Campus, allowing two earned runs on seven hits with a walk and seven strikeouts.

Newton used three pitchers with McKennah Cusick taking the loss. Olivia Sandoval and Megan Watkins also pitched.

In the second game, Campus took the lead with seven runs in the bottom of the second inning. Each team played even in the third through fifth innings, but Campus added a run in the sixth.

Chavez and Bailie Stanley each drove in three runs. Bailie Stanley hit a home run.

Mallory Seirer and Toria Thaw each went two for four hitting for Newton. Seirer drove in three runs. Thaw hit a home run and drove in two.

Kelie Stanley pitched the win for the Colts, allowing two earned runs on six hits with a walk and nine strikeouts.

Watkins took the loss for Newton. McKennah Cusack pitched four innings. Eight of the 14 runs Newton allowed were unearned.

Campus improves to 8-2. Newton is 1-9 and plays at 4 p.m. Thursday at Valley Center in non-league play.
