Early this past Saturday, one county resident's morning got off to a rough start.

A home invasion was reported to Harvey County 911 about 6:30 a.m. Saturday, according to Harvey County Sheriff Chad Gay, with intruders breaking into a rural residence south of Halstead on Hertzler Road.

The resident was home at the time, Gay said, and fought off the intruders, shooting at them as they exited the house.

Both the Harvey County Sheriff's Office and Halstead Police Department responded. No suspects were taken into custody, and details of the case were being released in a limited fashion as the investigation is ongoing.

"We're still actively investigating this thing. We're trying not to give out too much yet because it's a continuing investigation," Gay said. "The levels of crimes involved in that are a really big deal."
