MOUNDRIDGE — The Berean Academy girls’ basketball team edged rival Moundridge 45-44 to advance to the finals of the Class 1A regional tournament in Moundridge.

The Warriors face Chase County at 6 p.m. Saturday in the regional finals. Both Berean and Chase County advance to the sub-state next weekend in either El Dorado or Emporia.

Berean led 19-15 at the half and 35-26 after three quarters. Moundridge hit four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. Berean hit three of 12 free throws in the final period, but still managed to hold on for the win.

Clara Eldridge led Berean with 11 points.

Kate Eichelberger led Moundridge with 12 points.

Moundridge ends the season 14-8. Berean improves to 15-6.

SEDGWICK — The Sedgwick Cardinal girls fell to Sterling 51-26 Thursday night in Heart of America League play.

Sterling led 21-15 at the half.

Kayla Morris led 16-4 Sterling with 20 points. The Black Bears won the HOAL title at 9-0.

Paige Brown scored seven points for Sedgwick.

Sedgwick is 11-9, 3-6 in HOAL, and opens Class 2A sub-state play at 7 p.m. Tuesday at home against Hutchinson Trinity.

SEDGWICK — The Sedgwick Cardinal boys’ basketball team ended the regular season with a 53-36 win over Sterling Thursday in Sedgwick.

The Cardinals led 23-7 after the first quarter and 39-18 at the half.

Nolan Crumrine led Sedgwick with 11 points. Trey Bright added 10.

Tyus Wilson scored 14 points for Sterling, 3-17 overall and 1-8 in HOAL play. Cody Oden added 13. Only two other players scored for a combined nine points.

Sedgwick, 9-11 overall and 5-4 in HOAL play, hosts Conway Springs at 7 p.m. Monday.
