After a shutout first quarter for the Dragon defense, Halstead took a 25-3 lead at the half.

Teegan Werth scored nine points for 4-12 Hillsboro.

Halstead is 12-3, 2-2 in CKL play, and hosts Hoisington at 6 p.m. Friday.

SEDGWICK — The Berean Academy Warriors held off Sedgwick 53-40 Tuesday night in Heart of America League play in Sedgwick.

Sedgwick led 27-15 at the half, but the Warriors led 38-32 after three quarters and continued to pull away in the fourth.

Brooke Wiebe led Berean Academy with 16 points. Clara Eldridge added 10 points.

Grace Thompson led Sedgwick with 20 points.

Berean is 10-6, 4-2 in HOAL play, and hosts Moundridge Friday.

GOESSEL — The Goessel High School girls’ basketball team was outscored 17-5 in the fourth quarter, falling to Centre 43-34 Tuesday in Wheat State League play in Goessel.

Goessel was held to one field goal and three of nine free throws in the final quarter. Centre was 12 of 21 from the line in the fourth quarter.

Goessel trailed 20-16 at the half, but took a 29-26 lead after three quarters.

Kelsey Hett each scored 15 points for Centre, 10-7. Allie Hird scored 11 and Alyssa Espinoza added 10 points.

Stephany Meyer led Goessel with 11 points.

Goessel is 4-12, 3-5 in league play, and plays Friday at Herington.

HUTCHINSON — The Moundridge Wildcat boys fell behind early and things steamrolled from there in a 74-36 loss to Hutchinson Trinity Tuesday in HOAL play in Hutchinson.

Moundridge trailed 14-3 at the end of the first quarter and 33-18 at the half.

“Not many positives tonight,” Moundridge coach Vance Unrau said. “Hutch Trinity had it all going tonight and you combine that with soft play on our part. Plus 17 turnovers. Not (an) acceptable performance.”

Luke Hammeke led 13-3 Trinity with 18 points. Kaleb Hammeke scored 17 and Jack Neal scored 12.

Brady Helms led Moundridge with 16 points.

Moundridge falls to 12-5, 4-2 in HOAL play, and plays Friday at Berean Academy.
