ELBING — The Halstead Dragon girls’ basketball team fell to Wichita Trinity Academy 62-58 Saturday in the championship game of the 52nd Eli J. Walter Invitational in Elbing.

The Dragons trailed 16-12 after the first quarter, 26-19 at the half and 44-37 after three quarters before ralling in the fourth quarter.

Trinity Academy, 8-4, was led by Ashleyn Bigelow with 17 points, Austin Broadie with 16 and Aubrey Winter with 13.

Karenna Gerber led Halstead with 19 points. Madison McClain scored 14 and Josie Engel scored 11.

Halstead is 10-2 and plays Tuesday at Lyons.

ELBING — The Berean Academy Warrior girls were outscored 10-3 in the fourth quarter, leading to a 37-31 loss to Hutchinson Central Christian in the third-place game of the Eli J. Walter Invitational Saturday in Elbing.

Central Christian led 20-17 at the half, but trailed 28-27 after three quarters.

Josie Ibarra led 13-1 Central Christian with 11 points. Krysten Bartlett added 10 points.

Berean, 8-6, was led by Mallory Wiebe with eight points.

Berean hosts Remington Tuesday.

ELBING — The Burrton Chargers downed the Goessel Bluebirds 44-37 in the seventh-place game of the Eli J. Walter Invitational Saturday in Elbing.

Goessel led 24-23 at the half. Burrton pulled ahead 32-28 after three quarters, hitting 12 of 16 free throws in the fourth quarter.

The Chargers hit 27 of 40 free throws for the game, while Goessel was 11 of 21.

Alexis Zehr led Burrton with 12 points, hitting 10 of 12 free throws.

Stephany Meyer led Goessel with 14 points.

Burrton, 3-11, plays today at Norwich. Goessel, 3-11, plays today at Elyria Christian.
