Bethel women

reach milestones

YORK, Neb. — More milestones were set for the Bethel College women’s basketball team in a 76-62 win over York College Saturday in KCAC play.

The Threshers move to within two wins of the school record for wins in a season.

Down 38-29 at the half, Bethel made a 33-12 third-quarter run to take the lead. It was one of the highest-scoring quarters for Bethel since women’s basketball went to the quarter system.

Jade Brown led the Threshers with 27 points and 14 rebounds, hitting 11 of 19 from the field. Abby Schmidt added 26 points and 14 rebounds, hitting six of 10 from the field and 14 of 21 from the line.

Schmidt scored her 700th career point and 500th rebound. She is the first BC player to reach 500 career points and 500 career rebounds since Taylor Durant and April Harpe both did it in 2015. She also is 80 rebounds shy of breaking her single season record from last year with 10 games remaining.

York was called for 33 fouls to 13 against Bethel. Bethel outscored the Panthers 29-14 from the free throw line.
