Bethel coach

takes honors

Bethel College men’s basketball coach Jayson Artaz was named the HoopsDirt.com NAIA Coach of the Week for the week ending Sunday.

The Threshers finished 2-0 at the St. Thomas-Houston Classic, beating Huston-Tillotson 82-79 in double overtime and host St. Houston 89-80.

Both schools are NAIA Division I schools, while Bethel is an NAIA Division II school.

The Threshers are 9-6, two wins better than last season.

It was the first time a Bethel coach has received the award. According to the release, “HoopDirt.com is the largest website in the country dedicated specifically to college basketball coaching news, jobs, and rumors at all levels.”

Artaz is now eligible for the HoopDirt NAIA Coach of the Year award, which will be named at the end of the season.

Artaz is in his first season as a collegiate head coach.
