PITTSBURG — The Bethel College women’s basketball team was able to stay with NCAA Division II Pittsburg State for three quarters, but the fourth was too much for the Threshers in a 72-47 loss to the Gorillas Monday afternoon at John Lance Arena in Pittsburg.

The game counted as an exhibition for Bethel. PSU improves to 10-1.

Bethel trailed 17-12 after the first quarter, 27-19 at the half and 46-35 after three quarters, but the Gorillas won the fourth quarter 26-12.

PSU was 28 of 60 from the field, while Bethel was 17 of 50. The Threshers did hold a 39-36 rebounding edge.

Tristan Gegg and Athena Alvarado each scored 14 points for Pitt State. Shelby Lopez added 10 points.

Kendall Michalski, Abby Schmidt and Karlie Schroeder each scored 12 points for Bethel. Schmidt had 12 rebounds.

Bethel resumes KCAC play at 5 p.m. Wednesday at home against Southwestern. The Moundbuilders are 3-11, 2-7 in KCAC play and are coming off an 84-50 exhibition loss to Newman University Monday in Wichita.
