Students at Newton High School can expect to see more police officers at the school this month, a response to a threat against the school. 

According to the Newton Police Department, a message was discovered Dec. 6 on school grounds threatening an act of violence on Dec. 10.

"We are actively working with the Newton Police Department," the school district wrote on Facebook.

Newton High School and Newton Police Department are currently investigating the threat.

According to the Police Department, a student at Newton High School reported a threat toward the school found on school grounds.

"Our officers are investigating to determine the source of the threat and evaluate its credibility," the department posted on Facebook. "The safety of our kids is our top priority, so we will be increasing the police presence at the high school."
