PRATT — The Remington High School wrestling team claimed a medal Saturday at the 54th Pratt Invitational.

The Broncos placed 13th out of 14 teams.

Pratt won with 163.5 points, followed by Ulysses with 161, Scott City with 158.5 and Goddard Eisenhower and Wichita Northwest tied for fourth at 102. Remington scored 27 points.

Javier Martinez placed fourth at 138 pounds with a 2-2 record to claim a medal.

Jacob Holle finished 1-2 at 120 pounds. Owen Theil finished 1-2 at 145 pounds. Hagen Taylor finished 1-2 at 160 pounds. Craig Fee finished 0-2 at 132 pounds.

HESSTON — The Hesston College women’s basketball team stopped the McPherson College junior varsity 67-59 to snap a 10-game losing streak.

The Larks led 22-15 after the first quarter, 34-31 at the half, 45-43 after three quarters and were able to pull away in the fourth quarter.

Essance Tolson scored 22 points with 22 rebounds to lead Hesston, hitting 10 of 15 from the field. Denazia Jeffers scored 12 points. Millaya Bray added 10.

Elle Gillen led McPherson with 13 points. Kristin Potter scored 11.

Hesston is 2-10 and hosts the Sterling College junior varsity at 6 p.m. Thursday.

HESSTON — The Hesston College men’s basketball team won two of three games in a four-game span.

Friday at the Labette Community College Classic, Hesston fell to Metropolitan Community College 79-62. Saturday, Hesston downed North Central Missouri College 92-86 to snap a three-game losing streak.

Monday at Yost Center, Hesston downed the McPherson College junior varsity 80-70.

Against Metropolitan CC, Hesston trailed 40-21 at the half.

Tavis Turner scored 20 points for MCC, followed by Dominic Fragola with 19 and Matthew Austin with 13.

Hesston’s scoring was not listed.

Against North Central Missouri, Hesston led 44-33 at the half. Again, Hesston’s scoring was not listed.

Jordan Reece led NCM with 21 points, followed by Jaran Richman with 15, Soloman Thomas with 14 and Marty Jackson with 12.

Against McPherson, Hesston led 37-34 at the half.

SOLOMON — The Burrton High School girls’ basketball team opened the season with a 37-27 loss to Solomon Friday in non-league play.

"We need to limit our turnovers and learn to handle pressure,” Burrton coach Kelli Zehr said. “Hopefully the nerves are out going into our first tourney at Goessel."

Alexis Zehr led Burrton with 17 points, hitting 11 of 17 from the free throw line.

Camryn McGinn led Sedgwick with nine points. Grace Thompson added eight points.
