A motorcycle hit the traffic triangle at S. 13th and S. Kansas St following a chase early this Saturday morning.

At about 4:45 a.m. Nov. 3 a Newton Police Officer spotted a motorcycle entering the roundabout at I-135 and First Street. The motorcycle did not have a license plate on it, the officer attempted to make a traffic stop. 

The cyclist ran from the officer, leading a chase westbound on First to Walnut, then eastbound on SE Third and south on Kansas Avenue. The motorcycle wreck occurred on S. Kansas Ave. and S. 13th. 

"He was injured with an ankle injury. He had a helmet on, but it came off and he may have broken his nose," said Lt. Scott Powell. "He had methamphetamines on him. His blood was sent in for testing for possible DUI.

According to Cpl. Michael Stinger, the motorcycle was stolen.

The rider, from Wichita,  whose name was not been released after being transported to a hospital, is currently charged with theft, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, fleeing or eluding a law enforcement officer, possession of stolen property, driving while suspended and several traffic violations.
