McPHERSON — The Bethel College women’s basketball team made a 17-3 third quarter run to stop NAIA Division I Oklahoma Panhandle State University Friday in the McPherson College Classic.

The Threshers had 64 team rebounds, one shy of the record set in 2016 against Oklahoma Wesleyan.

Bethel improves to 3-0 for the first time in since the start of the 2008-09 season.

Bethel trailed 13-12 after the first quarter and 29-25 at the half. Bethel held off the 2-1 Aggies 21-17 in the fourth quarter.

Abby Schmidt led the Threshers with 20 points and 20 rebounds. It was her career best in rebounds and her first 20-20 double-double. It was Bethel’s first 20-20 since Hannah Blackburn did it in 2011.

Schmidt was two rebounds shy of the school record for rebounds in a game, a record held by Blackburn.

Alyjah Kennedy scored 10 points with eight rebounds. Karlie Schroeder scored 10 points.

For OPSU, Addison Munsch scored 11 points.

Bethel plays Central Christian College at noon today in the McPherson Classic and plays at NCAA Division II Emporia State at 5:30 p.m. Monday in an exhibition.

McPHERSON — The Bethel College men’s basketball team improved to 2-1 after an 80-73 win over Bacone College Friday afternoon in the McPherson Classic.

Bethel trailed 33-24 at the half. The Threshers outscored Bacone 18-9 from 3-point range.

Dakota Foster led the Threshers with 21 points. Freshman Jaylon Scott scored 18 points with 11 rebounds, his second straight double-double. Sam Morgan scored 11 points. Poe Bryant scored 10 points with 11 rebounds.

The Threshers held a 41-35 advantage on the boards.

Ramon Ajose scored 19 points for Bacone, playing its season opener. Ulandus Jones scored 12 and Christian Brown added 10.

Bethel plays Dallas Christian at 2 p.m. today.

LINDSBORG — The Bethel College volleyball team ended the season with a three-set loss to Bethany Friday night in KCAC play in Lindsborg.

Bethel fell to the Swedes 25-15, 25-19, 26-24.

Bethany was led by Jordan Valentine with 13 kills and two downed blocks. Ivona Vojvodic set 29 assists. Brenna Black served two aces. Haley Reifsteck had 19 digs.

Nicole Klusener and Jordyn Allen each had 10 kills. Kylee VanderVeen set 17 assists. Klusener served two aces. Ally Pearce had 11 digs. Mia Loganbill and Allen each downed two blocks.

Bethany is 11-20, 5-7 in KCAC play. Bethel drops to 6-20, 3-9 in KCAC play. Bethel is assured a spot in the KCAC post-season tournament if Saint Mary (23-14, 8-3 KCAC) downs Avila (10-22, 2-9 KCAC) today in Leavenworth.
