A pair of teams that have shown signs of life late in the season will clash at 1:30 p.m. Saturday when the Bethel Threshers face the Friends Falcons at Adair-Austin Stadium in Wichita.
Friends is 2-7 overall and 2-6 in KCAC play after a 44-38 win over Saint Mary last week at home. The Falcons lost their first six games this season before winning two of the last three.
Bethel lost its first four games, win its next two and lost the last two weeks, including a 49-19 loss to seventh-ranked Kansas Wesleyan.
The loss to KWU was one of the closest games the 9-0 Coyotes played this season. Bethel jumped out to a 13-0 lead before KWU scored the next 35.
Friends is led by quarterback Brennan Whitaker, who has hit 129 of 226 passes for 1,575 yards with 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Cady Nagy has 27 catches for 415 yards receiving and four touchdowns. Glen Whisby has 21 catches for 313 yards and two touchdowns. Blake Crandall has 28 catches for 209 yards and three touchdowns. Jordan Fuchs has 15 catches for 161 yards and three touchdowns.
Noah Diaz leads the team in rushing with 88 carries for 360 yards and three touchdowns. Quincy Brown has 60 carries for 162 yards and three touchdowns.
On defense, Desean McKinnon has 73 total tackles, followed by Matt Washee with 52 and Sonny Brown with 42. Javon Polk has three quarterback sacks. Drake Damon has three interceptions.
Nick Navarro has hit six of nine field goal attempts with a long of 42 yards.
For Bethel, Zach Esau has 143 carries for 651 yards and five touchdowns. Esau also has hit 43 of 83 passes for 857 yards and seven touchdowns with four interceptions.
Camryn Harrison has 51 carries for 485 yards rushing and four touchdowns. Braedon Starlin-Driver and Gary Jolivet are both over 350 yards rushing with six touchdowns each.
Tanner Galliart has 20 catches for 418 yards receiving and five touchdowns.
On defense, Jordan Bell has 79 total tackles, followed by Joshua Seabolt with 68 and Charles Johnson with 50. Khalif Majied has three interceptions. Curtis Bent has 5.5 sacks.
