RIM ROCK FARM — The Newton High School girls’ cross country team marked its return to the Class 5A state meet as a team by claiming a medal and taking eighth Saturday at Rim Rock Farm.
St. Thomas Aquinas won the team title with 68 points, followed by Bishop Carroll at 79 and Goddard Eisenhower at 81.
Junior Sarah Murrow of St. James Academy was top medalist, winning in 18:46.8.
Newton was led by senior Alaina Stucky, who placed 16th in 20:06.5 for a medal.
Freshman Gabriella Mayes finished 46th in 21:23.5, followed by junior Ashley Salgado in 50th in 21:29.1, senior Megan Bartel in 77th in 22:22.9, senior Lylia Fernandez in 82nd in 22:33.7, junior Emily Penner in 100th in 25:17.0 and freshman Ivory Tilden in 101st in 28:03.0.
St. Thomas Aquinas won the boys’ title with 58 points, followed by Andover at 89 and Bishop Carroll at 95. Newton scored 268 points.
Ethan Marshall of St. Thomas Aquinas won the boys’ race in 15:33.9.
Newton was led by junior Erik Jantz in 38th in 17:13.5, followed by senior Noah Massanari in 54th in 17:24.4, junior Eli Blaufuss in 76th in 18:08.5, sophomore Luke Schmidt in 80th in 18:14.9, senior Jonah Hodge in 87th in 18:27.4, sophomore Benjamin Gering in 95th in 18:50.9 and freshman Caleb Koontz in 102nd in 19:20.7.
