SHAWNEE MISSION — The Newton High School gymnastics team sent three to the Shawnee Mission South All-Around Invitational Thursday.
No team scores were kept at the meet.
Talia Gay of Lawrence Free State won the meet at 36.425, while Josie Hickerson of Lawrence was second at 35.3 and Anna Vogel of Olathe East was third at 34.9.
Gay won the vault at 9.2, the uneven parallel bars at 8.975 and the floor exercises at 9.5. Brooklyn Beck won the balance beam at 9.15.
Newton was led by Toria Thaw, who took 13th at 32.375. Thaw claimed a fifth-place medal on the vault at 8.8, took 16th on bars at 7.175, eight on beam at 8.3 and 18th on floor at 8.1.
Becca Meyer finished 25th at 30.525. Meyer scored an 8.5 on vault, a 6.575 on bars, a 7.35 on beam and an 8.1 on floor.
Elise Jantz placed 36th at 25.95. Jantz scored a 7.9 on vault, a 5.8 on bars, a 5.25 on beam and a 7.0 on floor.
The meet ends the regular season for the Railers. Thaw and Meyer both qualified as individuals for the state championships at 10:45 a.m. Oct. 20 at Shawnee Mission South.
