HALSTEAD — The Halstead High School volleyball team swept a non-league home triangular Thursday at home.

Halstead downed Conway Springs 25-20, 25-6; and Wichita Trinity Academy 18-25, 25-23, 25-22.

Halstead is 9-3 and competes today at the Goessel Invitational.

Threshers fall

to Newman

The Bethel College men’s soccer team fell to NCAA Division II Newman University 4-1 Friday night at Joe W. Goering Stadium.

The game was scheduled to be played in Wichita, but moved to Bethel because of field conditions.

Bethel scored first in the sixth minute on a goal by Joshua Clay. Newman’s Ed Jabbari scored the next three goals in the 36th, 51st and 69th minute of play. Victor Rubio Lopez assisted on the first two goals. Andreas Agrell scored on the third.

Taylor White scored in the 78th minute with an assist from Tommy Fiszel.

Bethel was outshot 17-4, 10-2 on goal. Kobi Russom had six saves in goal for Bethel. Chase Bowman had one save for Newman, 2-1.

Bethel falls to 0-4 and plays at 19th-ranked (NAIA) Southwestern Christian at 4 p.m. Friday.
