County commission to meet

The Board of Harvey County Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. Aug. 27 in the meeting room of the Harvey County Courthouse, 800  N. Main.

Agenda items include an appointment to the food and farm council, a grant application, a proclamation in support of breastfeeding, capital projects for the county parks, a managed IT services agreement, an executive session to discuss personnel and a period for public comment.


BOE to meet

The Newton USD 373 Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. Aug. 27 in the meeting room of McKinley Administrative Center, 308 E. First.

Agenda items include approval of classified wage rates for 2018-19, approval of surplus equipment, a community vision team discussion and period of public comment.


City commission to meet

The Newton City Commission will meet for both a work session and regular meeting Aug. 28 at Newton City Hall, 221 E. Sixth.

The commission will meet for a work session at 5:30 p.m. to meet in an executive session to begin the city manager's annual evaluation. 

The city will meet for a regular meeting at 7 p.m. Agenda items include water and sewer improvements for Rolling Hills Sixth Addition, appointments to the Historic Preservation Commission, a special events waiver for a Sept. 21 event at Centennial Park, a special event request for the United Way Chili Cook-Off, a tax abatement for Future Foam, extension of an interlocal agreement involving the Rec Commission and school district, a discussion of the municipal pool, a discussion of centennial park ball diamonds, a mutual aid agreement for fire departments serving Harvey County, special assessments for some housing developments, a grant application to purchase tasers, a report from commissioner Leroy Koehn about his visit to the White House and a period for public comment.
