WINFIELD — The Bethel College volleyball team got off to a rough start to the season after dropping a pair of matches Tuesday in a triangular in Winfield.

Bethel fell to host Southwestern 25-13, 25-12, 25-13; and Southwestern Christian 25-17, 25-8, 25-12.

Southwestern was led by Deardin Kelley, Kaylin Bael, Alyxandria Blaker and Kanami Ellis with eight kills each. Catabrean Baumann set 11 assists. Emily White served six aces, followed by Baumann with four. Kelley had 11 digs, followed by White with 10.

For Bethel, Mia Loganbill had four kills, followed by Nichole Klusener and Sage Westerfield with three each. Jensen Roth set five assists, followed by Kaylee VanderVeen with four. VanderVeen and Hailey Hill each served two aces. Hill had 10 digs. Loganbill downed two blocks.

Against Southwestern Christian, Westerfield had five kills, followed by Avery Myatt with four. VanderVeen set nine assists. Taylor Buessing had seven digs. Loganbill downed two blocks.

For Southwestern Christian, Cashlyn Munroe had 11 kills, followed by Kami Bratcher with 10. Darian Parsons set 27 assists. Parsons served three aces. Baleigh Murphy and Liv Block each had eight digs, Bratcher and Caitlin McDougald each downed two blocks.

Bethel returns to play at 11 a.m. Friday at the KCAC Fall Fling at the Hutchinson Sports Arena. Bethel plays Tabor at 11 a.m. and Saint Mary at 3:30 p.m. Bracket play begins Saturday.
