Artist Jean Cook will lead an oil painting workshop Sept. 15, at Carriage Factory Art Gallery, 128 E. Sixth St.
Her paintings reflect an emphasis on the use of color, light and shadow. A native Kansan, Cook worked for Hallmark Cards for 34 years and now mantains a career as a professional artist.
The six-and-a-half hour class will begin at 9 a.m. Cook will provide pizza for lunch.
Cook is a signature member of the Society of Animal Artists, and her favorite subject is animals, whether domestic or wild. She is president of the Heartland Art Guild, Paola, and has memberships in several other art organizations. She studied art at Hutchinson Community College and Kansas City Art Institute.

Carriage Factory Art Gallery is housed in a carriage factory founded in 1883. The gallery offers workshops in various art media throughout the year.
In addition to rotating exhibits that feature regional art for sale, the gallery includes a sales gallery of 50 local artists, a gift shop and collections of paintings for sale by Albert H. Krehbiel and Vernon Rickman.
