D Labbe

WICHITA — The Wichita Thunder signed former Minnesota Wild farmhand Dylan Labbe for the 2018-19 season.

Labbe was drafted in the fourth round by the Wild in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, 107th overall.

He played parts of four seasons with the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League, scoring five goals with six assists in 84 games.

He also played in 17 games with the Quad City Mallards of the ECHL, scoring three goals with three assists and one goal in three playoff games.

He spent last season with the Rapid City Rush, scoring two goals with six assists in 42 games.

Before turning pro, he played parts of four seasons with the Shawinigan Cataractes of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, scoring 31 goals with 75 assists in 193 games. He also had a goal with eight assists in 14 playoff games.

"Dylan is a smooth skating defensemen that can play physical," Wichita coach Malcolm Cameron said. "He's experienced while still at the young age of 23. He will be relied upon to play many roles for us and we're very happy to have him on board for next year."

Sioux City

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — The Wichita Wingnuts made it two in a row over the Sioux City Explorers, winning 3-0 Tuesday night in American Association play at Mercy Field.

Travis Banwert (6-3) pitched eight innings of shutout ball for the win, allowing three hits, a walk and seven strikeouts. Daniel Tillman pitched the ninth inning for the save, allowing a walk with two strikeouts.

Wichita scored in the third inning on an error. Logan Watkins hit an RBI single in the fifth inning. Abel Nieves hit an RBI single in the seventh inning.

Watkins finished the game three for four hitting. Angel Reyes went two for four.

Sioux City’s Luis Mateo (9-4) took the loss, allowing 10 hits in seven innings, two earned runs, two walks and seven strikeouts. Ryan Horstman finished the game, allowing a hit and two strikeouts.

Blake Schmit had two of Sioux City’s three hits.

Sioux City drops to 56-19, but still leads Wichita by 10 games in the AA South. The Wingnuts improve to 46-29. Wichita closes its three-game series with the Explorers at 7:05 p.m. today.
