Wingnuts swept

WICHITA — The Wichita Wingnuts were swept in a three-game series by the St. Paul Saints, falling 10-1 Wednesday at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in Wichita.

The Saints scored six runs in the first inning, adding a run each in the second and third innings. Wichita scored in the bottom of the fourth on a Tony Thomas home run, but St. Paul added a run in the fifth and another in the sixth.

Justin O’Conner led the Saints at the plate, going two for five with two home runs and four RBIs. Richard Prigatano went three for four, driving in two runs. Brady Shoemaker went two for three with two RBIs. Noah Perio Jr. went two for five with an RBI. Josh Allen and J.J. Gould each went two for four.

Logan Watkins went two for four hitting for Wichita.

Vinny Nittoli (3-1) threw five innings for St. Paul, striking out eight. Corbin Osburn (2-1) took the loss for Wichita.

The Saints improve to 13-6, while Wichita drops to 10-9. Wichita takes today off and opens a weekend homestand with the Kansas City T-Bones at 7:05 p.m. Friday.
