HESSTON — Nerdcamp KS will hold its third annual event for educators next month, and while the day is primarily focused on teachers and librarians, organizers are opening the doors to the public for the first time at the end of the day to allow them to meet a host of children's authors.

A community book signing event will take place from 3:45 to 4:15 p.m. June 5 in the commons area of Hesston High School, located at 200 N. Ridge Rd. in Hesston.

Nerdcamp KS organizer Rachel Yoder said the event attracts Midwest authors looking to network with those who can get their books into the hands of young readers.

"A growing number of authors are learning about the Nerdcamp community nationwide," Yoder said. "It's an opportunity for them to connect with the people they want to connect with."

After participating in the Nerdcamp KS workshops, the authors will turn their attention to readers.

"They will have spent the entire day mostly with educators; this is the first time we're offering them the opportunity to connect with the public as well," Yoder said.

Giving children a chance to meet writers and have their books signed can be a unique and meaningful experience.
