SALINA — The Newton High School softball team dropped a pair of games to Salina South Friday in AV-CTL I play in Salina.
Newton dropped the first game 14-1 and the second game 16-1. The gams was stopped after five innings on the 10-run rule. The second game was called after four innings on the 15-run rule.
In the first game, South scored in every inning, including a total of 10 in the last two innings.
Newton scored in the top of the first.
Bailey Edison drove in four runs for South. Jenna Henderson went two for three with three RBIs. Jacie Marcotte and Katelynn McBurney each went three for four with an RBI. Jadyn Zamecnik and Kenedi Ratcliff each drove in two runs. Sydney McAdoo and Reese Altman each went two for two with three runs scored.
Marcotte went four innings for the win, striking out six. Ratcliff finished the game.
Megan Watkins took the loss for Newton.
South scored in every inning of the second game except the third. Newton scored in the top of the first.
Henderson went the distance in the second game, allowing three hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Alex Llamas took the loss for Newton. Josie Bacon and Blazee Stahl also pitched.
Ratcliff went three for four hitting with four RBIs. Henderson went two for three with three RBIs. Mataya Copes went four for four wit two RBIs. Zamecnik went two for four with an RBI. McBurney went three for four.
South is 7-7, 5-3 in AV-CTL I play. Newton is 0-16, 0-10 in AV-CTL I play. Newton plays Tuesday at Kelsch Field against Hutchinson.
