softball postponed

The Newton High School baseball and softball games scheduled for Friday at Andover Central were postponed because of the weather.

The softball games will be played Thursday. The baseball games will be played May 10.

Start times remain 4 p.m. at Andover Central.

Thunder falls

to Eagles

LOVELAND, Colo. — The Wichita Thunder clinched its first-ever ECHL playoff spot despite a 7-4 loss to the Colorado Eagles Friday night at the Budweiser Events Center in ECHL play in Loveland.

Tied 3-3 after three periods, Wichita was outscored 4-1 in the fourth period.

Ryan Olson scored two goals to lead the Eagles. Drayson Bowman and Jake Marto each scored a goal with an assist. Collin Bowman, Teigan Zahn and Brady Shaw each added a goal. Michael Joly, J.C. Beaudin and Julien Nantel each had two assists.

Ralph Cuddemi scored two goals for Wichita. Mark MacMillan and Ryan Van Stralen each addd a goal with an assist.

Wichita outshot Colorado 32-20. Lukas Hafner had 28 saves for Colorado. Shane Starrett had 23 saves for Wichita.

Colorado improves to 47-18-4-2 and already clinched the Mountain Division title. Wichita drops to 34-29-6-2. Wichita advances to the playoff after a 3-2 win by Rapid City over Tulsa, giving Wichita a lock on the fourth playoff spot in the Mountain Division. Wichita leads Tulsa by two points, but Wichita has the tie-breaker over the Oilers.

Wichita and Colorado meet for the final time in the regular season at 8:05 p.m. today in Loveland. Wichita and Colorado will meet in the playoffs, which start next week.

Colorado is in its final season in the ECHL, moving to the Class AAA AHL next season as the Colorado Avalanche’s top farm team.
