The Bethel College softball team opened a six-game homestand with a split against Sterling College Wednesday in KCAC play at Alan Wedel Field.

Bethel lost the first game 5-2, but won the nightcap 7-1 to snap a three-game losing streak.

Bethel is 13-16, 4-6 in KCAC play. Sterling is 8-18, 3-7 in KCAC play.

In the second game, Bethel pitcher Madison McDowell pitched five scoreless innings, allowing six hits, a walk and six strikeouts. Rylie Scudder finished the game allowing a run on two hits with a strikeout.

Byanka Diosdado went 4.2 innings for Sterling, allowing five earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. Stella Di Luca finished the game, allowing a run on four hits.

Bethel opened the game with an Alexis Wilson sacrifice fly in the top of the first. Katie Schrag hit a solo home run to lead off the second inning. Wilson hit an RBI single in the bottom of the third.

In the bottom of the fifth, McDowell led off with a triple and scored on a Emalee Overbay single. Wilson followed with a two-run home run.

Jordan Hill drove in a run with a triple in the sixth inning.

Casandra Estrada hit an RBI single for Sterling in the top of the sixth.

Wilson finished the game two for two with four RBIs. Katie Schrag finished two for three. McDowell and Hill each finished two for four.

Dominique Salgado and Estrada each went two for three hitting for Sterling. Tiana Bonde went two for four.

In the first game, McDowell and Wilson each drove in a run for Bethel in the bottom of the first inning. Sterling scored in the top of the second on a Jenna Wiemer ground out.

With one out in the top of the third, Sterling posted a pair of singles. Both runners scored on a Tiah Grass triple. Grass scored when Estrada grounded into a fielder’s choice.

Escalera hit a home run for Sterling with one out in the top of the fifth.

Mia Luques pitched a complete game for Sterling, allowing four hits with a walk and five strikeouts.

Raegan Beckley took the loss for Bethel, allowing four earned runs on seven hits with a walk and a strikeout. Baileigh Rager finished the game, allowing a run with two strikeouts.

Escalera had four of Sterling’s eight hits in the game.

Bethel hosts Kansas Wesleyan at 1 p.m. Saturday at Wedel Field. Kansas Wesleyan is 14-18 overall and tied for sixth with Bethel and Bethany at 4-6 in conference play.
