MOUNDRIDGE — With five top returnees back, first-year Moundridge softball coach Annie Toews will have some material to work with for the upcoming season.

Moundridge was 15-8 last season, winning a Class 2-1A regional title and falling in the first round of state to eventual runner-up Ellinwood 1-0.

Toews is assisted by Brandon Roth.

Top returnees include Keira Sebrant (jr., C), Zizi Sebrant (so., P), Ellen Durst (so., 2B), Taylon Potts (sr., IF) and Bethany Stucky (sr., IF).

Newcomers include freshmen Makenzie Elmore (P), Erin Durst (IF) and Katie Castor (U).

“We are still in the process of figuring out what we all can do,” Toews said. “We have some big shoes to fill at pitcher and infield due to graduation. The girls are working hard and as we gain experience and chemistry we look to push to make some noise at regionals. Experience is a funny thing, you can’t just go out and buy experience. You have to work your way through it. It can definitely cost you. There are a lot of peaks and valleys along the way but we want to be playing our best ball in May.”
