Abuse board seeking grant applications
The Newton Substance Abuse Board now accepting Grant applications for substance abuse treatment and prevention.
According to K.S.A. 79-41a04, funds allocated to the city out of the state's “local alcoholic liquor fund” are earmarked for the city's “special alcohol and drug programs fund." Permitted uses of funds are limited to the purchase, establishment, maintenance or expansion of services or programs whose principal purpose is any of the following:
• alcoholism and drug abuse prevention and education
• alcohol and drug detoxification
• intervention in alcohol and drug abuse treatment of persons who are alcoholics or drug abusers
• treatment of persons who are in danger of becoming alcoholics or drug abusers.
Application deadline for the grants is June 15.

Informed Women to meet
The Informed Women of Harvey County will meet at 7 p.m. April 12 at St Matthew's Episcopal Church, 2001 Windsor Drive.
The group will host Rep. Tim Hodge, Rep. Don Schroeder and Sen. Carolyn McGinn.
