'Souper Bowl' fundraiser coming up

The second annual Circle of Hope Souper Bowl – a football-themed evening of soup, fellowship and pie auction – will be at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 30. at First United Methodist Church, 801 North Main in Newton.

“We had an idea for an event that we thought sounded fun and with hard work, supportive community turn-out and wonderful donations it totally exceeded our expectations,” said Souper Bowl chair and Circle of Hope volunteer Rosie Hake. “It was so much fun we decided to do it again.”

A soup supper begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the church. For a donation, diners will have their choice of several kinds of soups. Local musicians, the Newton Ukelele Tunes Society (NUTS) led by Marva Weigelt, will provide dinner music.

At 6:15, auctioneer Mike Flavin and his wife, Debbie, will conduct an auction of pies and desserts.

Pies and desserts donated for the auction will be on display throughout supper, giving bidders time to decide which they want to bid on.

Childcare will be available during the auction.
