City commission to meet
The Newton City Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Aug. 8 in the commission room on the third floor of Newton City Hall, 201 E. Sixth.
Agenda items include a parking lot closure for a "Maker's Fair" Sept. 23, closure of a portion of Fifth Street for a 5K run Sept. 30, recognition of School Resource Officer Jon Adkins, recognition of Newton High School teacher Mike McConnell, recognition of the Yard of the Year winners, a budget hearing, an ordinance to increase tax revenues for the budget, a resolution to establish an events policy including a fee structure, a contract for engineering services to design sanitary sewer improvements in Autumn Glen Fourth Addition, a report on a rural water tender project, consideration of voting delegates for the Kansas League of Municipalities annual meeting and a period for public comment.
County to meet
The Harvey County Board of Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. Aug. 7 in the commission chambers of the Harvey County Courthouse, 800 N. Main.
Agenda items include an amendment to an agreement with the Boy Scouts of America, approval of a courthouse roof repair, a conditional use permit for Kansas Zombie Hunters, the vacation of roads in Patterson Town Site Plat, a bid opening for the RCB replacement program, approval of a master control plan for the detention center, an executive session to meet with county legal counsel and a period for public comment.
