Repairs continue at Broadway roundabout

City street crews will continue wide crack repairs at the East Broadway roundabout next week.

Beginning Monday morning, the eastbound lane of Broadway will be closed. Westbound traffic and I-135 ramps will not be affected.

The work is expected to be complete by  Aug. 11, weather permitting.

Fill the bus Saturday

The annual Fill the Bus school supply drive by Harvey County United Way and Wal-Mart will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 5 at Wal Mart, 1700 S. Kansas Ave. This year Carter's, Faith and Life Book Store, the Heart-to-Heart Child Advocacy Center and Kansas Christian Home are joining in as collection centers.

The Fill the Bus drive is a different kind of school supply drive — it is designed to get teachers the supplies they need to start the year in their classrooms. Teachers fill out wish lists and submit them to the United Way. Those shopping lists will be available Aug. 5 for those wanting to help fill them.

Goessel festival this weekend

Farming, food and fun will be the focus of this year's County Threshing Days, held Aug. 4, 5 and 6 at the show grounds next to the Mennonite Heritage and Agricultural Museum, 200 N. Poplar in Goessel.

More than 100 exhibitors will come to display and demonstrate antique equipment related to farming during the past century. Younger generations can learn how much manual labor was involved in farming decades ago. Even with the help of machines, farmers had to work without the aid of air conditioning or GPS.

Admission for County Threshing Days is $5 at the gate or $4 in advance and free for children under 12 years of age. Admission buttons good for all three days are available at Keith’s Foods, 216 E. Main St. in Goessel and the Mennonite Heritage and Agricultural Museum.
