County commission to meet

 

The Harvey County Commission will meet at 8 a.m. Aug. 8 in the commission room of the Harvey County Courthouse, 800 N. Main.

 

Agenda items will include canvassing the primary election, a bid opening for a bridge project, an executive session, a tour of the Harvey County Fair and a period for public comment.

 

 

North Newton council to meet

The North Newton City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Aug. 8 in the North Newton City Hall, 2601 N. Main.

 

Agenda items include a mayoral appointment to the historic preservation commission, a public hearing on the 2017 budget, appointment of delegates for the annual meeting of the League of Municipalities and a period for public comment.

 

BOE to meet

The Newton USD 373 Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. Aug. 8 in the board meeting room of McKinley Administrative Center, 308 E. First.

 

Agenda items include staff handbooks for Chisholm Middle School and Newton High School; a transportation handbook; the proposed 2016-17 budget, classified wage rates, gift requests, administrative reports and a period for public comment.

 

City commission to meet

 

The Newton City Commission will both host a work session and regular meeting Aug. 9.

 

The commission will host a work session at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 9 in the third floor conference room of city hall, 201 E. Sixth.

 

Agenda items for the work session include a proposal for petroleum at Newton City/County Airport and a discussion of the 2017 budget.

 

The commission's regular meeting will start at 7 p.m. in the commission chambers of City Hall.

 

Agenda items include a proposal to close a portion of first street for the Newton High School homecoming parade, adoption of traffic ordinances, adoption of the uniform public offense code, recognition of the Babe Ruth and Cal Ripken state baseball qualifiers, an update from the Economic Development Council, a public hearing on the 2017 budget, consider the approval of the 2017 budget, consider the issuance of general obligation refunding bonds and a period for public comment.
