The 127th annual Harvey County Fair gets started tonight. This year the fair will feature some new events, and some old favorites as well. A full schedule of entertainment is on tap throughout the weekend, as well as exhibits open in the fair buildings and livestock competitions in the livestock barn. 

Three highlights

1. The market

There is a new event on the Harvey County Fair Calendar, one that shows promise just from the sheer number of pre-registered participants.

It is called “Market in the Park,” on the schedule for Aug. 6. The Market will be north of the fairgrounds in Athletic Park. The crafts/vintage market has more than 65 vendors registered.


2 Off to the rodeo

Three nights of rodeo events are a part of the fair. Tonight and Saturday are the annual fair rodeo, while Monday is the first-ever “ATV Rodeo” The ATV rodeo will feature barrel racing and “pole bending.” These events not only test speed, but also challenges the rider's abilities on the ATV or motorcycle. Ticket fees are charged for rodeo events at the Newton Saddle Club.


3  Smash 'em up

One of the largest events at the fair each year is the Demolition Derby. Drivers will compete for prize money on Sunday night in the Derby Pit on the south side of the fairgrounds.



WHEN: The fair will be Friday evening, all day Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

WHERE: The Harvey County Fairgrounds, 801 W. First, Newton.

HOW MUCH: Admission to the fair is free. Ticket fees are charged for the carnival, the rodeo, the ATV rodeo and the demolition derby.
