TOPEKA — Gov. Laura Kelly signed legislation Friday adjusting a 2021 state law allowing for creation of first-time homebuyer savings accounts to make it easier for financial institutions to distribute money to a beneficiary when an account holder passed away.
Sedgwick County Assistant District Attorney Aaron Breitenbach stated in a letter, sent to three complaintants, that the Newton USD 373 Board of Education did not violate the Kansas Open Meetings Act during a Feb. 22 special meeting of the board.
The Bethel College tennis teams suffered their first conference losses of the season, falling to Southwestern Saturday at the Ward Tennis Center. The Bethel women were edged 4-3.
The Newton High School boys’ track team won the Joe Vann Invitational Friday in Winfield, while the Railer girls were third in the nine-team field. The Railer boys scored 132 points, followed by Buhler at 106 and Derby at 100.
McPHERSON — The Newton High School girls’ soccer team ended play in the 17th McPherson Invitational with a 3-0 win over Augusta Friday in the fifth-place game. Izzy Sandoval turned the hat trick with all three goals.
On rainy days adults skillfully walk around the puddles while children stomp gleefully through them, oblivious to the mess they’ll leave behind. Nothing cuter when kids do it but when adults do it then it’s not so cute.
