The following is the Meals on Wheels menu for Sunday, Feb. 3, through Saturday, Feb. 9. Items for people with diabetes are listed in parentheses. Sunday — Steak fingers, gravy, baked potato, scalloped apples, roll, ice cream, (sugar-free ice cream), milk. Monday — Chicken strips, mashed potatoes and chicken gravy, California mix, fruit cocktail, roll, oatmeal raisin cookie, (vanilla wafers), milk. Tuesday — Roast beef, gravy, baked potato, applesauce, roll, chocolate chip cookie, jelly, (graham crackers), milk. Wednesday — Beef and noodles, broccoli, pears, roll, vanilla pudding, jelly, (sugar-free pudding), milk. Thursday — Cold tuna salad, pasta roma salad, three-bean salad, apricots, milk, bun. Friday — Ham, navy beans, carrots, pineapple, cornbread, chocolate pudding, (sugar-free chocolate pudding), milk. Saturday — Chicken patty, bun, french fries, peas, mandarin oranges, milk.

Those interested in receiving meals should call 283-3500. The meals are prepared by Newton Medical Center and are delivered by volunteers seven days a week, including holidays. Diabetic diets are served when ordered by a physician.


The American Red Cross Good Neighbor Nutrition Program meals served at the Newton Area Senior Center, 122 E. Sixth will be:

Feb. 4 — Beef and macaroni; buttered cabbage; spring fruit mix; whole wheat bread

Feb. 5 — Salisbury steak; mashed potatoes; diced beets; fruit mix with blueberries; whole wheat bread

Feb. 6 — Creamy ham and potato soup; combination salad with dressing; hot spiced apples; chocolate chip cookies; crackers

Feb.7 — Taco salad; green peas; strawberry peaches

Feb. 8 — Cranberry meatballs; sweet potato and apple casserole; coronado salad; citrus sections; potato roll

Contributions are encouraged. The suggested contribution for a meal for those age 60 and older is $2. However, no person will be denied a meal due to an inability to pay. (The meal for each day’s volunteers is provided.) Reservations must be made with the site manager or the Senior Center director at 283-2222 three weekdays before the meal.
