Jacob “Paul” Rutschman, 96, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at Newton Medical Center. He was born Oct. 3, 1916, in Whitewater to Albert and Bertha (Meisterhanz) Rutschman. He married Martha “Marty” Smith on June 11, 1950, and she survives of the home. Paul served his country during World War II as a flight engineer in the Army Air Corp, where he worked on transport planes. He worked at Holstine’s Chevrolet in Newton for 36 years prior to his retirement. He enjoyed horseshoes, golf, bowling and fishing. He also took pride in his lawn and vegetable garden. Family was very important to Paul, and he greatly enjoyed spending time with his loving family and friends. The family would also like to thank and acknowledge the care they received from the “Generations Unit” at Newton Medical Center. Paul is survived by his wife, Marty of the home; daughters, Judi and her husband, Ron Arnold of Lakewood, California, Patty and her husband, Randy Wedel of Overland Park, Kansas, and Nancy and her husband, Don Glenn of Wichita, Kansas; son, Lyle Rutschman of Newton, Kansas; son-in-law, Rodney Reynolds of Long Beach, California; sister, Beryl Laswell of Newton, Kansas; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jolene Reynolds; and sisters, Margaret Gronau and Alberta Covalt. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Newton, Kansas. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time on Friday at the church. The family will receive friends prior to the service. Graveside committal service with military honors will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Newton, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Generations Unit at Newton Medical Center, in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
