I endorse T. Walton for sheriff 100 percent. Several years ago, as the program director of juvenile intake, I had the opportunity to work with T. Walton. I was sold on him then. Since then, I have had the opportunity to see his competency on so many levels. He is a dedicated and experienced law enforcement officer and hostage negotiator.

He also is a champion of the victims of crime. His wife can tell you just how many off-duty hours he spends trying to solve seemly unsolvable crimes. Those characteristics are essential for a good sheriff, but they are not the only qualities necessary for an excellent sheriff.

As a community psychologist focusing in law enforcement-related research, I understand that, in these times, the job of sheriff requires so much more. He has worked with local agencies that provide crime prevention and treatment services for many years. He also has worked with the schools. Many good things have come out of this. He inspires people to make our community a better place to live.

He also is experienced in grant writing. The only way to reduce the burden on taxpayers, without reducing services, is to seek external funding. I believe he can do that for the citizens of Harvey County.

I encourage each and every one of you to vote for T. Walton on Nov. 4.
