SALINA — The Hesston College baseball team opened play in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II, Region VI playoffs with a split against Brown Mackie College Monday in Hesston.
Hesston opened the first game of the best-of-five series with a 7-5 win. Hesston scored five runs in the first two innings of play. Brown Mackie came back with four runs in the third inning and one more in the fifth to tie the game. Hesston regained the lead with a run in the fifth and another in the sixth.
Yogi Lynch went the distance for the win, allowing one earned run. Adam Smart, Kirk Kelly, Daniel Martin, Cody Batchelor and Dallas Fenn had two hits each for Hesston. Jason Wohlford had a home run.
In the second game, Brown Mackie used a three-run fifth inning to claim a 4-3 win. Travis Roecker took the loss for Hesston. Kelly, Batchelor and Gemm each had two hits. Hesston is 5-23.
