In 1879 there arrived a mutual aid company of homesteaders from Zanesville, Ohio, to disembark at the ATSF depot in Dodge City. From there they streamed out to claims in Meade County around a little community they called Pearlette. The historian Bob Haywood has chronicled their settlement.
The second-ranked (KWCA, Class 5A) Newton High School boys’ wrestling team made a statement Thursday night with a pair of Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division I dual meet wins at Ravenscroft Gym. Newton edged top-ranked (KWCA, Class 6A) Derby 42-23 and Maize South 82-0.
The year of 2022, a sesquicentennial year for the city of Newton, has been a big year for Newton Murals and Art. Three murals were completed this year - the latest is “The Ice House Mural” which is on the back of a building facing the Newton Train Station and Newton City Hall.

Andrea Nell Sharp, 37, beloved daughter, sister and friend, passed away Monday, December 5, 2022, after a long illness.
